How do I prepare it?

Mix hardwood sawdust with bran and gypsum, hydrate to field capacity, load into bags, and sterilize.

  1. Combine hardwood sawdust and wheat bran in a large container and mix thoroughly.
  2. Add gypsum to stabilize pH and improve texture.
  3. Slowly hydrate with water while mixing until the substrate reaches field capacity (squeezed fist releases only a few drops).
  4. Load substrate into 5L bags and compress lightly to avoid air pockets.
  5. Fold and seal bags using an impulse sealer.
  6. Sterilize bags in autoclave at 15 PSI for 150 minutes.
  7. Allow bags to cool overnight before inoculating with grain spawn.
  8. Incubate at 20–23°C for 30–45 days until fully colonized.
